The Lagos State Government has today, Monday, October 13, 2025, re-arraigned convicted billionaire kidnapper Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, before the Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja. The re-arraignment is in connection with the alleged murder of two police officers during the course of his criminal operations.

Evans appeared in court alongside his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, where both were charged with a five-count information bordering on murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping. The charges were read before Justice A.O. Ogala, and both defendants pleaded not guilty.

Evans, who gained national notoriety for his involvement in high-profile kidnapping cases, is currently facing five separate criminal trials involving kidnapping and murder. He has already been convicted in two of those cases and is serving prison sentences.

The prosecution alleges that Evans and Emeka were directly involved in the fatal shooting of two police officers during a botched kidnapping attempt. The Lagos State Government, through the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice is served and that perpetrators of violent crimes are held accountable.

The Lagos State Ministry of Justice reiterates its zero-tolerance stance on violent crime and assures the public that all legal processes will be followed diligently. The government remains committed to the safety and security of all residents and will continue to pursue justice for victims of criminal acts.
