The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has called on officers and personnel to make their health a top priority, emphasizing that physical and mental well-being are essential for optimal performance and national service.
Speaking during a health awareness seminar organized for officers at the Command Headquarters in Abuja, Dr. Odumosu stressed that the demands of modern security operations require not only tactical readiness but also robust health and emotional resilience.
“A healthy officer is a productive officer. We cannot protect lives and property effectively if we neglect our own well-being,” he stated.
The seminar, themed “Wellness for Duty: Building a Fit and Focused Force”, featured medical professionals who educated officers on preventive healthcare, stress management, nutrition, and routine medical checkups. The initiative is part of a broader wellness campaign launched by the NSCDC to promote a culture of health consciousness across its formations.
Dr. Odumosu also announced plans to establish a dedicated health desk within the FCT Command to monitor officers’ health status and facilitate access to medical support. He urged personnel to take advantage of the resources provided and to avoid self-neglect in the name of duty.
“We must break the culture of silence around health issues. Seeking help is not weakness — it is wisdom,” he added.
The Commandant commended the Corps’ leadership under Dr. Ahmed Audi, Commandant General of NSCDC, for prioritizing staff welfare and supporting initiatives that enhance operational efficiency through holistic well-being.
