Former Minister of Power and seasoned technocrat, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has boldly reaffirmed his commitment to contesting the Oyo State governorship seat in the upcoming 2027 elections, declaring, “I’ve paid my dues, it’s my turn.” The statement, made during a high-profile stakeholders’ meeting in Ibadan, has sparked renewed interest in the political trajectory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart.
Adelabu, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and scion of the late political icon Adegoke Adelabu, emphasized his long-standing contributions to both public service and grassroots development in Oyo State. He cited his extensive experience in governance, finance, and infrastructure as the foundation for his renewed ambition.
“I have served this country at the highest levels of financial and energy management. I have invested in our communities, empowered our youth, and stood firm with our people. I’ve paid my dues. It’s my turn to lead Oyo to the greatness it deserves,” Adelabu stated passionately.
The declaration comes amid growing speculation about the APC’s strategy for reclaiming Oyo State, which is currently under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Adelabu, who previously contested in 2019 and 2023, believes the time is ripe for a leadership shift that prioritizes economic revitalization, security, and inclusive governance.
Party insiders and political analysts view Adelabu’s renewed bid as a strategic move that could galvanize support across key constituencies, especially given his technocratic credentials and deep-rooted ties to Ibadan politics.
