Dangote Group has announced a landmark partnership with Honeywell International Inc., a United States-based Fortune 100 industrial and technology company, to drive the next phase of expansion of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
The agreement marks a significant step toward transforming the refinery into the world’s largest petroleum processing hub, with capacity set to rise from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2028.
Under the terms of the partnership, Honeywell will provide advanced catalysts, equipment, and process technologies through its UOP division. These innovations will enable the refinery to process a broader range of crude grades efficiently, enhance product quality, and improve operational reliability.
The collaboration also includes licensing Honeywell’s Oleflex technology, which will allow Dangote Refinery to increase its polypropylene production to 2.4 million metric tons annually, supporting the growing demand for industrial materials used in plastics and automotive manufacturing.
Speaking on the development, Dangote Group emphasized that the expansion aligns with its long-term vision of building a globally competitive refining complex that not only meets Africa’s energy needs but also contributes significantly to global energy markets.
The partnership with Honeywell is expected to accelerate the refinery’s ability to deliver cleaner fuels, reduce import dependency, and strengthen Nigeria’s position as a major energy hub.
Honeywell International expressed confidence in the collaboration, noting that its technologies will play a pivotal role in ensuring the refinery’s operational efficiency and sustainability.
The company highlighted that the partnership underscores its commitment to supporting large-scale industrial projects that drive economic growth and energy security worldwide.
The Dangote Refinery, already recognized as one of the world’s largest single-train refining facilities, is poised to become a cornerstone of Africa’s industrial transformation. With this expansion, the refinery will not only meet domestic demand but also export refined products, contributing to Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings and regional energy stability.
The agreement between Dangote Group and Honeywell represents a milestone in global energy collaboration, reinforcing the ambition to create the world’s largest petroleum refining complex and setting new standards for innovation, scale and sustainability in the industry.
