A devastating fire tore through a high-rise apartment complex in Hong Kong's Tai Po district early this morning. The blaze claimed at least 13 lives and injured 15 others. Authorities quickly declared it a level five alarm as flames spread rapidly across multiple buildings.

Firefighters arrived at Wang Fuk Court around dawn. They battled intense heat and thick smoke that hindered rescue efforts. Over 700 personnel joined the operation, using ladders and aerial platforms to save trapped residents. However, the fire's ferocity trapped many inside their homes.

Rescue teams pulled survivors from balconies and rooftops. Meanwhile, medical crews treated the injured at nearby hospitals. Four victims died en route or shortly after arrival. The death toll includes residents from various floors, highlighting the fire's widespread impact.

Investigators now probe the cause. Initial reports suggest faulty wiring or construction materials sparked the inferno. Bamboo scaffolding on the buildings may have accelerated the spread. Consequently, officials inspect similar structures citywide to prevent future tragedies.

Chief Executive John Lee expressed deep condolences. "This tragedy shakes our community," he stated. "We commit to supporting affected families and enhancing safety measures." Furthermore, emergency services provide temporary housing for displaced residents.

The incident underscores urban fire risks in dense Hong Kong. Yet it also showcases heroic responses from first responders. Authorities urge residents to check fire safety equipment regularly.
