Representative and 2024 Democratic Senate nominee Colin Allred announced he will end his campaign for the United States Senate and instead seek election to the newly configured Texas 33rd Congressional District, the Dallas-based seat he represented from 2019 to 2025.

“After thoughtful conversations with family, supporters, and Democratic leaders across Texas, I have decided the best way I can serve our state right now is by returning home to the district I know and love,” Allred said. “Texans deserve unified Democratic nominees who can hit the ground running in November. By stepping aside in the Senate race, we avoid a costly and divisive runoff and give our party the strongest possible chance to defeat Republican extremists in 2026.”

Allred continued, “The people of the 33rd District raised me, educated me, and sent me to Congress once before. I delivered hundreds of millions of dollars for affordable housing, veterans’ health care, and infrastructure in this community. I’m ready to go back to work for the neighbors I’ve fought for my entire career.”

Allred launched his Senate campaign in July 2025 to challenge the expected Republican nominee. In 2024, he held Senator Ted Cruz to the closest margin in decades and outperformed the top of the ticket by wide margins across North Texas.

The new 33rd District combines strong Democratic portions of Dallas and Tarrant counties. Allred represented much of this territory during his three terms in Congress, where he served on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and helped pass the PACT Act, the largest expansion of veterans’ benefits in a generation.

“I’m grateful for the overwhelming support we received in the Senate race,” Allred added. “That energy will now power our campaign to keep this seat blue and continue delivering results for Dallas families.”
