President Bola Ahmed Tinubu today departed from Lagos, Nigeria, en route to Europe, as he prepares to attend the prestigious Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) in the United Arab Emirates next month. The President's travel itinerary includes key engagements in Europe before proceeding to Abu Dhabi for the global summit focused on advancing sustainable development and clean energy transitions.

The departure marks the beginning of a strategic diplomatic trip aimed at strengthening Nigeria's role in international discussions on climate action, renewable energy, and sustainable economic growth.

While in Europe, President Tinubu is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with European leaders and stakeholders to explore partnerships in green technology, infrastructure development, and trade opportunities that align with Nigeria's Renewed Hope Agenda.

Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, set to take place from January 11–15, 2026, is a flagship event hosted by Masdar and the UAE government, bringing together heads of state, policymakers, business executives, and innovators to address pressing global challenges such as energy security, climate resilience, and net zero goals.

The summit includes the World Future Energy Summit, which runs from January 13–15, 2026, and serves as a platform for showcasing breakthroughs in renewable energy and sustainable practices.

"President Tinubu's participation in ADSW underscores Nigeria's commitment to global sustainability efforts," said a statement from the Presidency. "As Africa's largest economy, Nigeria is poised to lead in harnessing renewable resources, and this summit provides an invaluable opportunity to forge alliances that will drive our nation's green transformation."

During the summit, President Tinubu is expected to deliver remarks on Nigeria's progress in renewable energy initiatives, including solar and wind projects, and advocate for equitable climate financing for developing nations. His administration has prioritized sustainability through policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, promoting electric vehicles, and enhancing agricultural resilience.

The President's delegation includes senior officials from the Ministries of Environment, Power, and Foreign Affairs, as well as representatives from Nigeria's private sector.
