Four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly today declared their full support for impeaching Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu. These lawmakers had stepped back from the process last week but now recommit to it.
The lawmakers spoke at a press conference in front of the Assembly complex in Port Harcourt. They include Minority Leader Sylvanus Nwankwo from Omuma Constituency, Peter Abbey from Degema Constituency, Barile Nwakoh from Khana Constituency I, and Emilia Amadi from Obio/Akpor Constituency II.
"We changed our minds because the governor and his deputy keep ignoring the rules," said Sylvanus Nwankwo. "They hire people to attack the Assembly through the media. This shows they do not respect our work."
The group first pulled out after calls for peace from elders and leaders. But recent actions by the governor's team pushed them back into the fight. They claim Fubara spends state money without House approval, which breaks the law.
This move adds fuel to the ongoing crisis in Rivers State. The trouble started between Governor Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike, who now leads the Federal Capital Territory. The Assembly began impeachment talks late last year over claims of serious wrongdoing.
The lawmakers vow to follow through. They plan to ask the Chief Judge to set up a panel to look into the charges. This step aims to hold leaders accountable and protect the state's laws.
