Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, today passionately urged youths from Anambra and the broader South-East region to join the Nigerian Army, Police, and other security agencies. This appeal addresses the region's historically low participation rates and aims to foster greater national integration.
Governor Soludo emphasized that Nigeria belongs to all citizens. He called on young people to view themselves as co-owners of the nation and actively contribute to its security framework. "The civil war ended 56 years ago," Soludo stated. "Our youths must move beyond past grievances and embrace opportunities for peace and progress."
Recent recruitment data reveals a stark reality. Anambra records the lowest enlistment numbers into the army and police compared to other states.
The governor warned that this trend leads to self-marginalization. "Nobody is marginalizing us; we are doing it to ourselves by staying away," he declared. Without immediate action, the South-East risks lacking senior military officers in the coming years, Soludo added. "If you do not join the police or the army in the next 15 years, you will complain about the absence of senior officers from your region."
The governor also extended an olive branch to armed groups and individuals claiming to fight for Biafra. He urged them to lay down their weapons, leave the bushes, and reintegrate into society. "Violence achieves nothing," Soludo said. "Come out and build a better Nigeria with us."
Soludo commended the dedication of security agencies in Anambra. He highlighted their sacrifices in maintaining peace and encouraged youths to bolster these efforts through enlistment.
This call aligns with Soludo's vision for a united and prosperous Nigeria. Youths interested in enlisting should contact local recruitment centers or visit official Nigerian Army and Police websites for details.
