In a historic move aimed at accelerating development and fostering greater national unity, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made today during a statewide broadcast from Yola, where the Governor stated that he has moved to the APC together with his entire cabinet, key appointees, elected local government chairmen, and officials of the PDP in Adamawa State.

Governor Fintiri emphasized that this decision, reached after extensive consultations with stakeholders across the state, is driven by the overriding developmental interest of the people of Adamawa.

He highlighted the need for stronger alignment with the Federal Government to unlock more resources, infrastructure projects, and opportunities that will directly benefit citizens and position the state for sustainable progress.

"This strategic realignment is not about personal ambition but about what is best for Adamawa and its people," Governor Fintiri said in the broadcast. "By joining the APC, we are better positioned to collaborate effectively with the federal administration, attract critical investments, and deliver on our shared vision of a more prosperous and united state."

The defection significantly bolsters the APC's dominance at the state level, bringing the number of APC-controlled governorships to 30 out of Nigeria's 36 states.

Governor Fintiri expressed gratitude to the people of Adamawa for their continued support and confidence, assuring them that his administration remains fully committed to good governance, inclusive development, and the welfare of all residents.

The APC leadership in Adamawa State and at the national level has welcomed Governor Fintiri and his team, describing the move as a positive step toward broader national cohesion and accelerated progress
