Former Vice President and Waziri Adamawa, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed profound grief and outrage over the recent series of deadly attacks in Adamawa State that claimed the lives of more than 20 innocent Nigerians.
The attacks, which occurred in Madagali and Hong Local Government Areas, targeted civilians in markets and villages, resulting in widespread loss of life, destruction of property, and displacement of residents.
Gunmen reportedly opened fire indiscriminately and set homes ablaze, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region already burdened by years of insurgency.
In a statement posted on his official X account, Atiku described the incidents as deeply tragic and unacceptable. “I am deeply moved by the tragic attacks in Adamawa State, where gunmen killed over 20 people in a market in Madagali and Hong local government areas,” he stated.
He emphasized the profound anguish suffered by families who lost loved ones and livelihoods in such brutal circumstances.
Atiku, a native of Adamawa State and a consistent advocate for peace and security, condemned the attacks in the strongest terms and called on federal and state authorities to act swiftly.
“The attack not only highlights the worsening insecurity in the country but also underscores the urgent need for enhanced protection of vulnerable communities,” he added.
He urged security agencies to redouble their efforts, apprehend the perpetrators, bring them to justice, and implement robust measures to prevent future occurrences. “I urge the authorities to redouble their efforts to address this menace, ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice, and strengthen security to prevent future attacks,” Atiku demanded.
The former Vice President extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the government and people of Adamawa State, and all those affected.
He stood in solidarity with the victims and commended local efforts to restore calm while calling for sustained collaboration between communities, government, and security forces to achieve lasting peace in the northeast.
Atiku reiterated his long-standing position that the safety and security of every Nigerian must remain the top priority of governance. He called for a comprehensive review of security strategies in the region to address root causes and restore normalcy.
