His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, today formally addressed the people of Kano and the nation, explaining his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party at the federal level.

In a statement delivered during the grand rally at Sani Abacha Stadium and reiterated through his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Governor Yusuf emphasized that his move is driven by a deep commitment to the progress, stability, and wellbeing of Kano State and its citizens.

“Kano is too large, too strategically important, and too vital to Nigeria’s future to remain politically disconnected from the centre of national governance,” Governor Yusuf stated. “This decision is about strategically aligning our state with the federal government to accelerate development, unlock greater opportunities, and secure a brighter future for our people.”

The Governor stressed that the choice was not motivated by personal ambition or political expediency but by an overriding sense of responsibility. “It is not about me; it is about placing Kano in a position where it can fully participate in national development, access critical resources for infrastructure, economic growth, education, security, and the welfare of our citizens,” he added.

Governor Yusuf, who was originally elected in 2023 under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) before resigning from the party amid internal challenges and later formally joining the APC in late January 2026, noted that citizens of Kano are more interested in tangible results than prolonged political rivalries.

He assured that this alignment will translate into faster infrastructure projects, enhanced federal collaboration, and sustained administrative stability under his “Kano First” philosophy.

“Development today thrives on alignment, cooperation, and access to national opportunities. By joining the APC, Kano now has a seat at the table not on the margin of national decision-making,” the Governor declared.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other national leaders have welcomed the move, describing it as a strengthening of national unity and a boost for Kano's role in Nigeria's progress.

Governor Yusuf called on all citizens of Kano across political affiliations, communities, and generations to join hands in support of this new chapter focused on unity, progress, and shared prosperity.
