President Donald J. Trump announced today that United States military forces will continue to maintain a strong presence in the waters and airspace near Iran until a genuine, enforceable agreement is secured to protect American interests and regional stability.
Speaking during a briefing at the White House, President Trump made clear that the U.S. will not withdraw its forward-deployed assets until Iran commits to a “real agreement” that addresses nuclear proliferation, ballistic missile development, and threats to international shipping lanes.
“The U.S. military will remain near Iran until a ‘real agreement’ is reached,” President Trump stated. “We are not going to leave until we have something that is real, something that is verifiable, and something that actually protects the American people and our allies. Iran knows exactly what it has to do. The clock is ticking.”
The President’s remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Persian Gulf, where U.S. naval forces, including carrier strike groups, have been conducting sustained patrols to deter Iranian aggression and safeguard the free flow of global energy supplies.
Senior administration officials confirmed that no timetable for withdrawal has been set, and that the U.S. posture will remain robust until Tehran demonstrates concrete steps toward compliance.
White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan added: “President Trump’s message is straightforward. Strength through presence is the surest path to peace. We will not reward bad behavior with premature concessions.”
The announcement underscores the administration’s “peace through strength” doctrine, which prioritizes maximum leverage in negotiations while ensuring the safety of U.S. troops and partners in the region.
