The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of the Armed Forces of Nigeria is pleased to confirm the arrival of approximately 100 United States military personnel, along with associated equipment, in Nigeria.

The arrival of these U.S. personnel follows a formal request from the Nigerian Government for enhanced support in training, technical assistance, and intelligence-sharing.
The deployment was formalized through recent deliberations during a joint working group engagement between Nigerian and U.S. defence officials, aimed at deepening collaboration to address shared security challenges.
These U.S. military personnel will serve in a non-combat, advisory, and training capacity.
They will provide specialized training to Nigerian forces to build capacity in counterterrorism operations, tactical skills, and operational effectiveness against ongoing threats from Islamic militants and other armed groups.
Nigerian forces retain full command authority and operational control at all times.
The U.S. personnel will not engage in direct combat or assume any operational role.
