Port Harcourt, Rivers State February 14, 2026 Rivers State Governor, His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that his ascent to the governorship would not have been possible without the instrumental support and vision of the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike.
Speaking at the award ceremony where he was honoured as New Telegraph Man of the Year, Governor Fubara dedicated the recognition to God, his family, the people of Rivers State, and specifically to Minister Wike for discovering his potential and providing the platform that propelled him into political prominence.
"I do not care how you interpret it or misinterpret it. I also dedicate this award to somebody who also discovered me not minding the situation, the Honourable Minister of the FCT, my oga, Nyesom Wike," Governor Fubara said.
"Without him, I wouldn’t be standing here as governor. He discovered me and it’s a discovery that gave me this loudness."
The governor emphasized that Wike's backing not only elevated him to the governorship but also shaped his approach to leadership, including his deliberate choice of restraint and focus on peace amid ongoing political dynamics in the state.
