Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has categorically denied allegations linking him to an ongoing social media dispute between activist Martins Vincent Otse (popularly known as VeryDarkMan or VDM) and content creator Mitchell Mukoro (known as King Mitchy).
In a statement released via his Instagram page today, Mr. Tinubu addressed the claims that have circulated online in recent days, describing them as false and baseless attempts to tarnish his reputation.
“Over the past few days, my name has been deliberately drawn into an online dispute between VeryDarkMan (VDM) and King_Mitchy (‘Mitchy’),” the statement read. “Let me be clear: the allegations and insinuations made about me are false.”
Mr. Tinubu clarified that his only interaction with King Mitchy occurred once in a public setting, where he provided financial support to her non-governmental organisation (NGO) as part of his ongoing commitment to youth empowerment and philanthropic initiatives across Nigeria.
“I met her once, alongside others, and contributed funds to support her NGO,” he explained. “Philanthropy and outreach must never be politicised or weaponised.”
He firmly rejected the insinuations and accusations leveled against him, emphasising his refusal to engage with what he termed fictional narratives.
“I will not be bullied, and I will not dignify fiction with panic,” Mr. Tinubu stated. “I have experienced bullying before, and I understand the harm it can cause. No disagreement should descend into harassment that risks someone’s wellbeing or safety.”
The controversy arose following King Mitchy's public disclosure of financial support from Mr. Tinubu for a school renovation project, which escalated into a heated online exchange with VeryDarkMan, drawing widespread attention and speculation on social media.
Mr. Tinubu condemned the escalation of online disputes into personal attacks and harassment, urging that disagreements remain constructive and respectful.
He reiterated that Nigeria needs “builders, not bullies,” and called for an end to the weaponisation of charitable efforts for political or personal gain.
Mr. Tinubu expressed concern over the broader implications of such online feuds, particularly their potential impact on mental health and personal safety.
He concluded by reaffirming his dedication to positive contributions to society without seeking undue attention or involvement in unrelated controversies.
