Renowned Nigerian clergyman, relationship coach, and Lead Pastor of David’s Christian Centre, Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, has called on men to establish higher standards when choosing life partners, advising them to stop marrying women who approach marriage primarily as a means of financial support.

In a recent statement that has ignited widespread discussion across social media and news platforms, Pastor Okonkwo emphasized the importance of viewing marriage as a partnership rather than a burden.

He argued that many men have grown accustomed to relationships where women function as "liabilities" or "dependents," which in turn discourages marriage and perpetuates financial strain for families.

“Men, it’s high time we start having standards as well,” Pastor Okonkwo stated. “You guys are too used to women who are liabilities, that’s why less and less men desire marriage they see it as a burden.”

He further encouraged men to seek partners who contribute to mutual growth: “Men set standards like you won’t marry broke women too, that you want a partner and not a dependent. Maybe it will make more women work and not see marriage and dating as a poverty alleviation scheme.”

The pastor's advice highlights his belief that balanced, financially responsible unions foster stronger marriages, greater personal accountability, and long-term prosperity.

He has long been known for addressing practical aspects of relationships, faith, and personal development, often blending biblical principles with real-world counsel on topics such as financial responsibility, character, and mutual respect in marriage.

This latest message builds on Pastor Okonkwo's previous teachings, where he has discussed the transformative power of marriage, the role of vision and discipline in overcoming financial challenges, and the need for both men and women to approach relationships with purpose and maturity.

The statement has already sparked diverse reactions online, with supporters praising the call for mutual contribution in marriage and critics questioning the framing around financial status.
