Chelsea Football Club has today accepted sanctions from the Premier League following an investigation into historical breaches of league rules. The club has been fined a total of £10.75 million (approximately $14.3 million) and received a suspended one-year ban on registering first-team players, alongside an immediate nine-month ban on academy registrations.
The sanctions stem from breaches related to financial reporting, third-party investment, youth development regulations, and undisclosed payments during the previous ownership era under Roman Abramovich.
Chelsea self-reported potential issues to the Premier League following the 2022 takeover by the Todd Boehly-led consortium, demonstrating full cooperation throughout the process.
Key details of the sanctions include: Financial Penalty: £10.75 million fine, ratified by an independent commission.
First-Team Transfer Ban: One-year suspension on registering new senior players, suspended for two years. This means Chelsea can continue normal first-team transfer activity provided no further breaches occur during the suspension period.
Academy Transfer Ban: Immediate nine-month prohibition on registering new academy players.
The Premier League confirmed that the club has entered into sanction agreements, accepting responsibility for the historical infractions. No points deduction or other sporting sanctions have been imposed in relation to these matters.
A Premier League spokesperson stated: "These sanctions reflect breaches of our rules on financial reporting and related matters. The club’s cooperation and self-reporting have been factors in the agreed outcome."
Chelsea FC remains fully focused on its current operations under manager Enzo Maresca and the present ownership group.
The club continues to prioritize sustainable growth, compliance with all regulations, and success on the pitch in the Premier League, Champions League, and domestic cups.
