The revered traditional ruler of Ikire Kingdom in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State transitioned to join his ancestors on Saturday, February 28, 2026, barely a month after celebrating his 91st birthday in January.

His death was officially announced by the Chairperson of Irewole Local Government, Hon. Esther Okunola, in a statement issued in Osogbo on Monday. The circumstances surrounding the monarch's passing have not been disclosed publicly.

Oba Olatunde Falabi, a respected pharmacist by profession before ascending the throne, was widely admired for his leadership, wisdom, and contributions to the development of Ikire land and the promotion of Yoruba cultural heritage. His over 30-year reign was marked by peace, community progress, and efforts to preserve traditional values while embracing modern advancements.

The Irewole Local Government has declared a period of mourning and described the late monarch as an irreplaceable pillar of the community whose legacy of service, integrity, and dedication will endure for generations.

"The entire people of Irewole Local Government and Ikire Kingdom are deeply saddened by the departure of our beloved father and royal father, Oba Olatunde Falabi," the statement read. "He lived a full life of service and impact. We mourn with his family, the palace, and the entire Yoruba nation. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace."

Tributes have begun pouring in from across Osun State and beyond, as traditional rulers, political leaders, and residents reflect on the monarch's enduring contributions.

Details regarding funeral arrangements and the process for selecting a successor will be communicated by the palace in due course, in accordance with the customs and traditions of Ikire Kingdom.

The people of Ikire and Osun State are called upon to remain calm and prayerful during this period of grief, honoring the memory of a great leader who served with distinction.
