In a significant development within Adamawa State’s political landscape, prominent governorship aspirant Chief Maurice Vunobolki has officially resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Chief Vunobolki, a respected development expert, retired banker, and former governorship candidate, announced his decision to quit the party amid ongoing preparations for the 2027 general elections. His resignation marks another notable exit from the APC in Adamawa as the state continues to witness realignments following high-profile defections, including that of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri from the PDP to the APC earlier this year.
Sources close to the aspirant indicate that the move reflects deep dissatisfaction with internal party dynamics and processes ahead of the primaries. In recent public statements, Vunobolki had emphasized the need for transparent primary elections and warned against any form of imposition, stressing that he would not remain in any platform that fails to uphold fairness and internal democracy. He hinted at seeking a new political platform better aligned with his vision for the development of Adamawa State.
Chief Vunobolki has been positioning himself as a strong contender for the APC ticket, recently declaring his intention to contest the governorship and touring various local government areas to consult with stakeholders. His departure is expected to further reshape the contest for the 2027 governorship race in the state.
The APC in Adamawa has yet to issue an official reaction to the resignation as at the time of this release.
