The African Democratic Congress (ADC) successfully held state congresses in Abia and Ogun States on Saturday, April 11, 2026, as part of its efforts to elect new executives and strengthen the party’s structures nationwide in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
In Abia State, the congress proceeded with the participation of party members and stakeholders committed to democratic processes and the party’s renewal. The exercise aimed to produce a unified state executive that reflects the will of the grassroots and positions the ADC as a formidable alternative for voters in the state.
In Ogun State, the congress also took place as scheduled, in line with guidelines from the recognized national leadership.
However, parallel activities resulted in the emergence of two rival chairmen, highlighting lingering internal differences within the chapter. The party notes that such developments are not uncommon during periods of reorganization and reaffirms its commitment to resolving all disputes through dialogue, due process, and adherence to the ADC constitution.
These congresses form part of a broader nationwide exercise to rejuvenate the party following recent leadership transitions and legal clarifications with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The ADC remains focused on building inclusive structures, attracting new members, and presenting credible candidates who will address the aspirations of Nigerians for good governance, economic stability, and national development.
The African Democratic Congress calls on all members, stakeholders, and supporters in Abia, Ogun, and across the federation to remain united and law-abiding. The party is determined to overcome internal challenges and emerge stronger as a credible platform for progressive politics in Nigeria.
The ADC leadership expresses gratitude to all party faithful who participated peacefully in the congresses and reassures Nigerians of its unwavering dedication to democratic values and transparent internal processes.
