Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has donated the sum of ₦50 million to the family of the late Lieutenant Colonel OC Okolo, who was killed in a Boko Haram attack at Mandaragirau in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State on February 16, 2026.
The generous cash donation, presented on behalf of the Borno State Government, forms part of Governor Zulum’s consistent support for the families of fallen heroes and personnel wounded in action during counter-insurgency operations in the state.
Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to standing with the Nigerian military and the families of gallant officers and soldiers who have made the supreme sacrifice in the fight against terrorism and insurgency in Borno and the North East region.
A delegation from the Borno State Government attended the funeral service of the late Lt. Col. Okolo despite the short notice, a gesture that deeply touched the bereaved family.
Speaking on the donation, family representatives expressed profound gratitude for the Governor’s compassion and timely support, describing it as a significant relief that will help ease the burden on the widow and children left behind.
Governor Zulum has previously extended similar support to other families of slain officers, including a ₦150 million donation to the families of three other Lieutenant Colonels killed in recent attacks.
This latest act underscores the Borno State Government’s dedication to honouring the sacrifices of Nigeria’s security forces and providing tangible assistance to their loved ones during difficult times.
