The Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) has announced a temporary nationwide ban on all songs by Grammy-winning Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy (Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu). The decision follows a reported physical altercation between the artist and NDJ member DJ Tunez (Michael Babatunde Adeyinka) at a private event in Lagos on the night of April 7, 2026.
In a strongly worded statement issued via its official social media platforms, the NDJ directed all affiliated disc jockeys across Nigeria and abroad to immediately remove Burna Boy’s tracks from their playlists until further notice. The association emphasised its unwavering support for its members and zero tolerance for any form of discrimination or disrespect towards DJs.
“The Nigerian DJ Association is fully against the discrimination of any of its #NDJ members,” the statement read. “Burna Boy’s music is temporarily out of any of our DJs’ playlists till further notice. Our team will carry out a proper investigation on last night’s incident involving one of our own, DJ Tunez.”
The NDJ urged all DJs to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, vigilance, and mutual respect within the entertainment industry. “Respect among DJs is essential,” the association added, calling on members to remain cautious and professional when interacting with artists at events.
The ban, which applies to clubs, events, radio, and digital platforms serviced by NDJ members, will remain in effect pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation. The association stressed that the move is not a permanent boycott but a necessary step to protect its members and maintain order in Nigeria’s vibrant nightlife and entertainment sector.
NDJ President [Name/Spokesperson] stated: “Our members work tirelessly to entertain audiences and create unforgettable experiences. Any incident that threatens the safety or dignity of a DJ will not be tolerated. We stand united in support of DJ Tunez and all our members.”
The association has appealed for calm from all parties involved and called on the wider entertainment community to foster an environment of mutual respect between artists and DJs.
