Supporters of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have formally launched the Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) Movement, a new nationwide political pressure group and mobilisation platform. The unveiling took place in Abuja on Monday, as political realignments intensify ahead of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary and the 2027 general elections.
The movement, which merges structures from the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya movements, has already established presence across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with state and zonal coordinators appointed to drive grassroots mobilisation.
In a statement signed by Justin Ijeh, National Publicity Secretary of the OK Movement, the group described Nigeria as standing at a “defining crossroads” amid economic hardship, rising cost of living, and persistent insecurity.
“This is more than a political milestone; it is the birth of a coordinated, nationwide engine for systemic reform and national rebirth,” the statement read. “We recognise the exhaustion felt in every Nigerian household… Yet, in this moment of darkness, the OK Movement stands as a beacon of resolute hope. Our mission is anchored in a singular, unwavering conviction: Nigeria will be OK.”
The group emphasised its commitment to inclusive politics, rejecting “the tired politics of tribalism, regionalism, and religious sentiment” that have historically divided Nigerians. It positioned itself as “a home for all well-meaning Nigerians” focused on delivering a country that works for every citizen, not just a few.
The ‘O’ in OK stands for Obi, while the ‘K’ represents Kwankwaso, symbolising the alliance of two influential political figures and their vast supporter bases from the South and North.
The launch comes as speculation grows over a potential joint ticket involving Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso on the ADC platform, with the movement expected to play a key role in shaping the party’s presidential primary process.
Ambassador Auwal Musa Muhammad has been appointed as Deputy Director General (North) of the OK Movement to strengthen coordination and mobilisation in the region.
The OK Movement called on all Nigerians desirous of genuine change to join the platform and support the push for competent, transparent, and people-centred leadership in 2027.
