Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima on Friday visited Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to commiserate with the Nigerian Army, the Borno State Government, and the people of the state over the recent terrorist attack in Benisheikh that claimed the lives of several military personnel, including Brigadier General Oseni Braimah.

The Vice President, who led a high-level delegation on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressed deep condolences to the families of the fallen heroes and the leadership of the Armed Forces. He described the attack as a painful loss not only to the military but to the entire nation, reaffirming the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to supporting the troops and intensifying efforts to restore lasting peace and security in the North East.

“These gallant officers and soldiers paid the supreme price in the line of duty, defending our territorial integrity and the lives of innocent citizens. On behalf of President Tinubu and the entire Federal Executive Council, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the Chief of Army Staff, the bereaved families, and all personnel of the Nigerian Army. Nigeria will never forget their sacrifice,” Vice President Shettima said during the visit.

Shettima assured the military high command and the people of Borno that the government remains resolute in the fight against insurgency and terrorism. He pledged continued support through enhanced operational capabilities, improved welfare for troops, and sustained collaboration with state authorities to degrade the capabilities of terrorist groups operating in the region.

The Vice President also commended the resilience of the people of Borno and the sacrifices of the security forces, noting that the recent setbacks will only strengthen the collective resolve to defeat terrorism.

He was received by top military officials and Borno State Government representatives during the condolence visit.
