Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has revealed that his administration is finalising arrangements for the development of a 250-room five-star hotel in the state capital, Umuahia.

The project, which will be executed in partnership with a reputable international hotel brand, aims to significantly enhance tourism, attract business visitors, and stimulate economic activities in Abia State. Governor Otti made the disclosure during a recent engagement where he reaffirmed his commitment to the ongoing transformation of Umuahia.

“The site for the hotel has already been identified, and I have received the draft agreement which I shall sign this weekend to bring in a partner for a five-star hotel in Umuahia just like we are doing in Aba with the Radisson Blu,” Governor Otti stated. “We are going to deliver a 200 to 250-room five-star facility. The formal groundbreaking is expected in the coming weeks.”

This initiative forms part of broader efforts to reposition Umuahia as a modern, investor-friendly destination. It aligns with other key projects in the capital, including the reconstruction of the Umuahia Township Stadium and upgrades at the Amachara Specialist Hospital. The hotel is expected to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs in hospitality, security, management, supply chains, and related services, while providing world-class accommodation for dignitaries, tourists, and business travellers.

Governor Otti emphasised that the administration only embarks on projects it is fully committed to completing, assuring residents that the transformation of Umuahia is progressing steadily despite being at an early stage.

The development follows the successful advancement of similar hospitality projects in Aba, such as the Enyimba Radisson Blu Hotel, which is raising service standards across the South-East region.

Quotes: “Umuahia is witnessing unprecedented development, and this five-star hotel will further position the state capital as a hub for tourism and commerce. We are attracting the right partners who share our vision for excellence,” said Governor Alex Otti.
