President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reflected on the arduous journey to the presidency, revealing that he endured intense political battles, legal challenges, and personal attacks to emerge victorious.
Speaking on Friday while hosting members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) led by Vice President Kashim Shettima at his residence in Lagos as part of Sallah celebrations, President Tinubu described the path to leadership as tough and uncompromising.
“It was very challenging. It was tough for those who were at the party with me. Some kept faith, and instead of dodging the bullets, I took it. I took the punch in the chin, a very hard one,” President Tinubu said.
The President noted that the campaign period demanded persistence, discretion, and strategic silence, as he pushed forward with his ambition despite significant opposition. He credited his resilience and the loyalty of close allies for his eventual success at the polls in 2023.
President Tinubu used the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing that the sacrifices made were in service of building a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria. He highlighted ongoing economic improvements, including better macroeconomic indicators, infrastructure development, and agricultural growth.
The President also expressed appreciation to the governors for their support and collaboration in moving the nation forward, describing the current administration as one focused on long-term reforms for the benefit of all citizens.
