In a significant development from the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primaries held in Osun State, incumbent Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi (popularly known as Ajagunla), representing Osun Central Senatorial District, has lost his bid for re-election on the party’s platform.
According to results announced by the Chairman of the Osun APC Primary Election Committee, Mr. Bayo Ayo, Barrister Kunle Adegoke (SAN), also known as K-Rad, emerged victorious in the Osun Central contest with a commanding 26,655 votes. Senator Fadeyi polled 13,138 votes. Other aspirants recorded the following: Yomi Ogunwale (2,925 votes), Akintunde Adegboye (342 votes), and Olu Fakeye (67 votes).
Senator Fadeyi, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in 2025 along with other lawmakers, was the only one among the defecting National Assembly members from Osun who failed to secure the party’s ticket.
In contrast, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East, successfully retained the APC ticket. He polled 23,593 votes, defeating Prince Thomas Ogungbamigbe (806 votes) and Ajibola Famurewa/Israel Famurewa (472 votes). Fadahunsi, first elected in 2019 on the PDP platform and re-elected in 2023, defected to the APC in 2025.
In Osun West Senatorial District, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi clinched the ticket with 30,568 votes, far ahead of his closest challenger.
The APC primaries were described as largely peaceful. In a statement, the Osun APC leadership congratulated the successful candidates and urged all aspirants and supporters to maintain calm, avoid inflammatory statements, and channel any grievances through appropriate constitutional mechanisms. The party emphasized that “there’s no winner and no vanquished,” stressing unity in the overall interest of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This outcome reflects the democratic process within the APC as the party prepares for the 2027 National Assembly elections. Adekunle Adegoke (SAN) will now fly the APC flag for Osun Central Senatorial District.
