Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has named the newly commissioned Umuahia Central Bus Terminal after Professor Nnenna Nnannaya Oti, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), in recognition of her courage and integrity.
The Governor made the announcement on Wednesday during the official inauguration of the modern multimodal transport facility, which has now been christened the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal.
Speaking at the event, Governor Otti described Prof. Nnenna Oti as a shining example of courage and commitment to truth, particularly for her role as the INEC Returning Officer during the 2023 Abia Governorship election.
“This terminal has been named after Professor Nnenna Nnannaya-Oti, the courageous INEC returning officer who demonstrated unflinching integrity in the discharge of her duties during a high-stakes election assignment here in Abia,” Governor Otti said.
The state-of-the-art bus terminal is designed to accommodate over 340 buses, featuring modern amenities including sustainable power and water systems. It forms a key part of the administration’s urban transport reform initiative aimed at improving public transportation and boosting economic activities in the state capital.
Governor Otti emphasized that the naming honours not only Prof. Oti’s personal bravery but also serves as a tribute to all individuals who stood firm in defence of democracy and electoral integrity.
The Governor called on residents to make good use of the facility while maintaining it as a legacy project for the benefit of current and future generations.
