The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has issued a strong warning to corps members to steer clear of partisan politics throughout their service year.
Speaking while addressing the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Corps Members at the NYSC Lagos State Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos, the NYSC DG emphasized that the scheme remains a non-partisan organization dedicated to national development, unity, and peaceful service.
“Do not get involved in the campaign of any political party. Don’t mix NYSC with politics. You should stay clear of politics,” General Nafiu stated firmly.
He further advised corps members to avoid political campaigns, rallies, or any activities that could associate them with a political party, stressing the importance of maintaining the apolitical nature of the NYSC, especially as the country prepares for future elections.
In addition to the political directive, the DG urged corps members to use social media responsibly and to refrain from cyberstalking, cyberbullying, cyber fraud, or any form of online misconduct, noting that corps members are fully subject to Nigerian laws with no special immunity.
The warning aligns with NYSC’s core mandate of fostering national unity, discipline, and selfless service among Nigerian youths, while protecting the integrity of the scheme and the electoral process where corps members often serve as neutral ad-hoc staff.
