President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians to reject ethnic profiling and divisive blame games in the fight against insecurity, emphasising that criminality knows no tribe, religion, or region.
In his national address on Democracy Day 2026, President Tinubu warned against politicising insecurity or attaching criminal activities to any particular ethnic group, calling for national unity in the battle against bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists.
“At a time like this, let us not assign blame or point fingers. Crime has no ethnicity,” President Tinubu declared. “We must stand united and be assured that the enemies of our nation shall soon be history. We will triumph over terror and continue to build a more prosperous nation.”
The President issued a stern warning to bandits, kidnappers, and their sponsors to surrender immediately or face the full force of the Nigerian state, reaffirming his administration’s unwavering commitment to restoring security across the country. He stressed that democracy without security remains a mirage and vowed decisive action against all perpetrators of violence.
President Tinubu’s remarks come amid heightened national discourse on insecurity, particularly following recent high-profile incidents of kidnapping and banditry. He called on citizens to support security agencies and avoid narratives that could undermine national cohesion.
The President expressed optimism that with collective resolve and strengthened security operations, Nigeria will overcome its security challenges and emerge stronger.
