Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the agreement of a club-record deal to sign England international midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa.
The 23-year-old will join the Blues on a six-year contract, with the option of a further year, subject to the completion of a medical and personal terms. Rogers will travel for his medical on Monday upon his return from international duty with England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This landmark transfer sees Chelsea break their previous club record, surpassing the £107m paid for Enzo Fernández in 2023. The £117m fee also establishes a new record for an English player, eclipsing the recent £116m move of Elliot Anderson to Manchester City.
Chelsea Chairman Todd Boehly commented: "Morgan is a dynamic, versatile talent who has proven himself at the highest levels of the Premier League and on the international stage. We are thrilled to welcome him to Stamford Bridge as we continue to build a squad capable of competing for major honours under Xabi Alonso. This investment reflects our commitment to attracting the very best English talent."
Manager Xabi Alonso added: "Morgan fits perfectly into our vision for the team. His technical ability, athleticism, and understanding of the game make him an exciting addition as we prepare for the new Premier League season. I'm looking forward to working with him and integrating him into our squad."
Rogers, who came through the Manchester City academy before moving to Middlesbrough and then Aston Villa in 2024, has emerged as one of English football’s brightest prospects. A key figure for Villa over the past two and a half seasons, he has demonstrated versatility across attacking midfield and forward roles, earning senior caps for England.
The club would like to thank Aston Villa for their cooperation in facilitating this transfer. A portion of the fee will also benefit Middlesbrough via an existing sell-on clause.
