The Federal Government has intensified efforts to mobilise state governments and private school proprietors to fully participate in the National Digital Education Database, a key component of the Nigerian Education Data Infrastructure (NEDI).

This initiative aims to create a comprehensive, real-time digital platform that captures accurate data on every school, learner, teacher, and educational institution across the country, replacing the traditional manual school census system.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji-Ojo, urged all states and private schools to key into the Digitalised Nigeria Education Management Information System (NEMIS), emphasising its importance for evidence-based planning, effective policy implementation, and improved monitoring of the education sector.

“Accurate and reliable data is the foundation for transforming Nigeria’s education system. We call on all state governments and private school owners to join this national database without delay. This platform will ensure transparency, accountability, and better resource allocation for the benefit of our children and the nation,” the Minister stated.

Already, the platform has successfully registered over 32 million students, marking a significant milestone in the government’s push for digital transformation in education. The system provides centralised access to data for all tiers of government while allowing states to maintain complementary local systems tailored to their unique needs.

Key benefits of the National Digital Education Database include: Real-time tracking of enrolment, attendance, and learning outcomes. Improved coordination between federal, state, and private education stakeholders. Enhanced targeting of interventions and resources to underserved areas. Greater transparency and accountability in the education sector.

The Federal Government has assured private school proprietors that data submitted to the platform will be handled with the highest level of confidentiality and used solely for developmental purposes in the education sector.

All stakeholders are encouraged to contact their respective State Ministries of Education or the Federal Ministry of Education for technical support and onboarding procedures.

This strategic move is part of the broader Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative aimed at delivering quality, inclusive, and data-driven education for all Nigerians.
