Omoyele Sowore, Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) for the 2027 general elections, has declared his intention to abolish the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and scrap the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in their current forms if elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Sowore made the commitment while outlining bold education and youth development reforms aimed at removing bureaucratic bottlenecks, promoting merit-based opportunities, and empowering Nigerian youths with practical skills and employment pathways.
“When I become President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, JAMB will be abolished. WAEC and other credible examinations should be sufficient for university admissions. There is no justification for this unnecessary intermediary body that continues to create barriers for our young people,” Sowore stated.
On the NYSC, Sowore added: “The National Youth Service Corps, in its current form, will be scrapped. In its place, we will establish a two-year, voluntary National Job Corps that guarantees participants meaningful employment, practical skills acquisition, entrepreneurship support, and clear pathways into permanent careers.”
The AAC presidential candidate argued that both institutions have outlived their usefulness in their present structures and have become avenues for inefficiency, corruption, and wasted potential. He emphasized that his administration would prioritize direct admissions into tertiary institutions based on academic performance and introduce a modern, results-oriented youth service program focused on nation-building through real economic opportunities rather than mandatory postings.
This policy announcement forms part of Sowore’s broader revolutionary agenda to dismantle colonial and military-era structures, fight systemic corruption, and reposition Nigeria as a competitive 21st-century economy that works for all citizens, especially the youth.
Sowore urged Nigerian youths and all citizens tired of recycled leadership to join the movement for genuine change in 2027.
