President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the launch of a comprehensive training programme for 5,000 young Nigerians to be equipped as meter installers and technicians under the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI).

The initiative, branded The Power Force, aims to address Nigeria’s persistent electricity metering gap, eliminate estimated billing, protect consumers, and create meaningful employment opportunities in the power sector.

“Through the Presidential Metering Initiative (PMI), which I established to close Nigeria’s metering gap, end estimated billing, protect consumers and strengthen the electricity market, we are opening a new pathway for 5,000 young Nigerians to be trained as meter installers and technicians under The Power Force. This programme is about jobs, skills and dignity,” President Tinubu stated.

Participants will receive practical technical training in meter installation, electrical house wiring, and related skills. Successful trainees will be linked directly to opportunities within the electricity distribution companies and the broader power sector, contributing to improved service delivery and national development.

The programme is part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to boost local capacity, promote skills development, and accelerate the deployment of meters across the country. It is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs while supporting the goal of closing the metering deficit within the next two years.

President Tinubu urged Nigerian youths to take full advantage of this opportunity, emphasizing that the initiative reflects his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, human capital development, and sustainable economic growth.

The training will be coordinated through relevant agencies, including the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN), in collaboration with key stakeholders in the power sector.
