Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared that no one could defeat him in a free and fair election in Nigeria, stating he could even win a presidential contest if the process were truly transparent and reflective of the people’s will.
The multi-award-winning artist made the remarks during a recent livestream with content creator and comedian Carter Efe while discussing politics and the possibility of seeking public office.
When asked whether he would consider contesting for a governorship, Davido dismissed the idea under the current system. He said he has no interest in participating in elections where results are allegedly manipulated, emphasising that he is not the type to accept being cheated quietly.
“I’ll just continue doing my music until there’s transparency. Then I can think about politics because nobody can beat me in any election, ever,” Davido stated. “If there’s a free and fair election and everybody in Nigeria votes, I’ll win. But because of the system, there’s no transparency; they write results.”
He further noted that he is closely monitoring the upcoming Osun State governorship election, expressing hope that the process will demonstrate greater credibility.
Davido, whose uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election in Osun, has previously spoken out against electoral malpractice and pledged support for transparent polls. Despite his confidence in his widespread popularity across Nigeria, the singer stressed that he remains focused on his music career for now and will only consider politics if genuine electoral reforms take hold.
The comments have sparked widespread discussion online about celebrity influence, electoral integrity, and the potential for entertainers to transition into public office in Nigeria.
