Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on politicians and residents across the state to set aside political differences and unite in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, pledging to deliver the state’s votes “100 per cent.”
The governor made the appeal on Sunday while receiving the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ajibola Basiru, who paid him a congratulatory visit at the Government House in Okefia, Osogbo, following Adeleke’s victory in the August 15 governorship election.
Describing President Tinubu as his “dear father,” Adeleke stressed that his commitment was genuine and rooted in integrity.
“I don’t make empty promises. When I said we will deliver Osun State votes to our dear father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I mean it 100 per cent,” he said.
“Politics must be with integrity. We are all from Osun State. Let’s forget our differences and work for the President.”
Adeleke explained that his stance was shaped by values instilled by his late father, a diplomat and labour union politician, who taught him and his siblings that any commitment made must be fulfilled. He said this principle remains a core family value guiding his conduct in politics.
The governor recalled his earlier role in securing the support of Osun lawmakers for the emergence of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, despite initial indications that some members of his political group preferred another candidate. He said he personally contacted the lawmakers and persuaded them to align with the President’s preferred choices, resulting in the support of the three senators from Osun and members of the House of Representatives.
“I don’t make empty promises. I don’t play games. That’s not me, because I have a fear of God,” Adeleke added.
He therefore urged politicians and the people of Osun to put political differences aside and work together for the development of the state and the success of the President, noting that such differences should not hinder support for initiatives that benefit Osun and its people.
Dr. Basiru, who was accompanied by APC chieftains including former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly Akintunde Adegboye and Comrade Waheed Adediran, described the visit as threefold: to thank the governor for attending his late mother’s burial, to formally congratulate him on his electoral victory despite the APC’s loss, and to affirm readiness for cross-party collaboration to deliver Osun massively for President Tinubu.
Basiru noted that similar cross-party coalitions are emerging in other states and expressed confidence that a joint effort could significantly boost votes for the President.
The governor’s latest call reinforces his earlier and consistent endorsement of President Tinubu for a second term, which he has attributed to the President’s status as a son of Osun and a Yoruba leader from the South-West.
