Ogun Waterside Local Government has pledged its full support for the proposed Dangote Deep Seaport while calling on the Dangote Group to prioritise the employment of qualified indigenes in the project.
The Executive Chairman of the council, AbdulGaniyu Odunnoiki, made the commitment during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held at the council secretariat.
According to a statement by the Dangote Group, the meeting was attended by representatives of the Dangote Group, traditional rulers from the Ode Omi and Irokun kingdoms, community leaders and senior government officials.
Odunnoiki commended President Bola Tinubu and Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for approving the Free Trade Zone in Ode Omi and Irokun as the location for the proposed Dangote Deep Seaport.
He described the decision as a defining moment for the economic future of Ogun Waterside, noting that the project would accelerate industrialisation, create employment opportunities and reposition the area as a major logistics and maritime hub.
Representing the Dangote Group, Dr. Sulaimon Ibrahim reaffirmed the company’s commitment to responsible investment and meaningful engagement with host communities. He stated that the success of the deep seaport would be built on transparency, partnership and shared prosperity.
Also speaking, the member representing Ogun Waterside Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly, Samsideen Lawal, urged the Dangote Group to prioritise the employment of qualified indigenes in both technical and management positions. He further called for continuous dialogue between the company, traditional institutions and community stakeholders throughout the development of the project.
The stakeholders subsequently adopted a communiqué committing all parties to transparency, regular communication and peaceful collaboration throughout the implementation of the project. They also agreed to hold further town hall meetings as the development progresses.
The proposed Dangote Deep Seaport, located in the Olokola Free Trade Zone spanning Ogun Waterside and parts of Ondo State, is expected to drive significant economic growth, job creation and long-term development for host communities.
