Former Kano State Governor and Vice-Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has explained his decision to partner with former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi on a joint presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released as political activities for the 2027 polls intensify, Kwankwaso said Nigeria has reached a critical juncture marked by rising food and essential commodity prices, widespread unemployment, high business operating costs, and persistent insecurity.
He identified terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping as threats that continue to disrupt communities, prevent farmers from working their fields, and keep children from attending school in safety. Beyond the economy and security, he listed education, healthcare, infrastructure, and institutional reform as areas requiring urgent attention.
“Our education and healthcare systems require urgent investment. Our infrastructure must be improved, our institutions strengthened, and public resources managed with greater transparency and accountability,” Kwankwaso stated.
Explaining his choice of partner, the former governor emphasised that the alliance was driven purely by national interest rather than regional, religious, or personal considerations.
“This is why I have chosen to work with His Excellency, Peter Obi, on the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket. Our partnership is not about region, religion or personal ambition. It is about Nigeria,” he said.
Kwankwaso added that the proposed partnership focuses on accountable governance, economic opportunity, and inclusiveness.
“We believe in a country where government serves the people, where hard work is rewarded, where young people can build successful futures at home, and where every citizen has a fair opportunity to prosper,” he declared.
He urged young people, women, workers, farmers, entrepreneurs, and professionals to take an active interest in the political process ahead of the election, stressing that Nigeria possesses the people, resources, and potential to build a prosperous and secure nation under leadership committed to putting citizens first.
