The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has identified the revival and completion of capital projects abandoned for decades under previous administrations as the hallmark of his three-year tenure in office.

Wike made the remarks on Saturday while inspecting major infrastructure projects across Abuja, as he reflected on the achievements of his administration since assuming office on August 21, 2023.

According to the Minister, his administration’s deliberate focus on resuscitating abandoned projects, completing critical infrastructure, and delivering new ones has transformed the Federal Capital Territory.

“I am happy that in these three years in office, our team has remained completely committed to doing the job. Challenges have come, but we have been able to surmount them. The residents of the FCT can attest and testify that indeed things have changed for the better,” Wike said.

He emphasised that the administration prioritised aggressive infrastructure delivery, urban renewal, and the completion of long-abandoned critical projects in order to change the narrative about Abuja.

“When we came in, many doubted what could be achieved. Today, you can see the results for yourself,” the Minister stated.

Wike disclosed that several of the projects revived and completed under his watch had been abandoned for years, with some dating as far back as 1999.

“The track record of what we have accomplished in these three years is there for everyone to see. When you look at the actual records of what we have achieved, you will be shocked at how far we have come,” he added.

To document the progress, Wike announced that the FCT Administration would publish a comprehensive report detailing projects inherited and completed, as well as new projects awarded during his tenure.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress recorded, the Minister said: “I am very happy and proud that I have been able to contribute my own quota to the development of the FCT.”
