Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has launched ballistic missile and drone attacks targeting US military bases and assets in Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Iraq’s Erbil region, in what it described as retaliation for recent United States strikes on Iranian territory.
According to Iranian state media and IRGC statements, the response followed US Central Command airstrikes on Tuesday targeting IRGC air defense systems, radar installations, maritime assets, and mine-laying capabilities along Iran’s southern coast near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian officials reported that the US attacks hit multiple locations in Hormozgan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Kerman, and Bushehr provinces.
Iranian authorities and the Iranian Red Crescent Society stated that one of the US strikes affected a wedding ceremony in the southern region, resulting in civilian casualties.
Reports indicated at least four to five people killed, including a child, and dozens injured, the majority of them women and children. The US military has stated that it does not target civilians and is aware of the reports.
The IRGC said its forces conducted a “combined missile and drone attack” on US facilities, claiming hits on bases including Camp Titin and Prince Hassan airbase in Jordan, Sheikh Isa Airbase in Bahrain, and sites in Kuwait and Erbil. Iranian statements asserted damage to facilities and equipment and claimed US personnel casualties.
Jordanian authorities reported intercepting 10 of 13 ballistic missiles entering their airspace, with no confirmed casualties. Bahrain and Kuwait also reported intercepting incoming drones, with no major damage or casualties confirmed by local officials at the time of reporting.
US President Donald Trump had warned prior to the Iranian response that any retaliation would prompt “much harder and higher” attacks. Iranian military commands described their actions as a “crushing and shattering” response and warned of further measures against any parties supporting the US operations.
The exchange marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict centered on the Strait of Hormuz, which has seen intermittent military actions over recent months. Both sides have issued statements asserting their positions, with the situation remaining fluid.
