The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered ₦1.233 trillion in proceeds of crime and secured 10,872 convictions between October 2023 and July 2026. Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede presented the figures as part of the commission’s 34-month performance report under his leadership.

The commission recorded total naira recoveries of ₦1,233,612,040,411.11. It also recovered $684,478,457.32, £373,905.78 and €9,343,803.66, along with other foreign currencies. Of the naira sum, approximately ₦397.26 billion (33 per cent) represented direct recoveries for the Federal Government.

The remaining ₦836.34 billion (67 per cent) was recovered on behalf of ministries, departments and agencies, state revenue services, companies, individuals and foreign victims.

During the same period, the EFCC received 49,673 petitions. It investigated 39,615 cases and filed 14,476 cases in court. These efforts produced 10,872 convictions, reflecting a conviction-to-filing ratio of about 75 per cent. In the first half of 2026 alone, the commission secured 1,370 convictions from 1,889 cases filed.

“Asset recovery has been another major pillar of our stewardship,” Olukoyede stated. He noted that the figures represent sustained action against advance fee fraud, cybercrime, money laundering, bank fraud and economic governance offences.

Beyond cash, the commission secured court orders for the forfeiture of 10,053 tangible assets. These included 8,198 electronic items, 1,177 real estate properties, 370 automobiles and 251 plots of land, as well as schools, factories, hotels, shops, oil rigs, barges, machinery and aircraft. Proceeds from the disposal of finally forfeited assets amounted to approximately ₦12.07 billion, which was paid to the Federal Government.

The EFCC also released substantial recovered funds to rightful beneficiaries, including ₦661.32 billion and $492.37 million during the period under review.

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening investigations, evidence gathering and prosecution in the continued fight against economic and financial crimes.
