Olori Ivie Atuwatse III, wife of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, stated that her husband will not change his position on polygamy. She made the remarks in an interview with BBC News Pidgin.
Asked what she would do if the monarch, who had previously ruled out taking another wife, altered his stance, Olori Atuwatse III dismissed the possibility. “Firstly, His Majesty did fit to change his mind about polygamy. Make us just settle that one for there. Me alone, one me, I am like three women, so I die alright for me,” she said.
The comments follow an earlier interview in January 2026 in which the Olu of Warri explained his decision. “God did not give me that grace,” he said at the time. He noted that the demands of the throne already stretched his time and that he preferred to protect peace at home with his family.
Olori Atuwatse III also spoke about her marriage and role in the palace. She said one of the things she enjoyed most was watching the public celebrate her husband’s achievements. She added that his busy schedule sometimes made it difficult to share time, but the couple continued to navigate those demands.
