Fenerbahçe SK can confirm that it has parted ways with Head Coach José Mourinho with immediate effect.

The decision follows the club’s recent elimination from the UEFA Champions League playoff round against Benfica, which marked a disappointing end to the team’s European ambitions for the season. Mourinho, who joined the Yellow Canaries in July 2024, departs after just over a year in charge, having overseen 62 matches across all competitions.

Despite leading the team to a second-place finish in the Turkish Super Lig last season, Mourinho’s tenure was marked by a lack of silverware and early exits from both the Turkish Cup and the Europa League. The club’s statement reads: “We have parted ways with José Mourinho, who has served as our head coach since the 2024–2025 season. We thank him for his efforts for our team and wish him success in his future career.”

The 62-year-old Portuguese tactician, known globally for his stints at Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Roma, arrived in Istanbul with high expectations. However, the club’s failure to secure Champions League qualification and a turbulent start to the new season prompted swift action from the board.
