The Executive Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has officially appointed Dr. Wisdom Ebiye Sawyer as the new Head of the Bayelsa State Civil Service, following the retirement of Barr. (Mrs.) Biobelemoye Charles-Onyema on August 31, 2025.
The announcement was made through a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, in Yenagoa. Dr. Sawyer, a seasoned public health expert and career civil servant, previously served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health.
Born on May 14, 1970, in Odi community, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, Dr. Sawyer began his career in the Bayelsa State Civil Service on June 8, 1998, as a medical officer.
Dr. Sawyer is also a member of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, underscoring his commitment to excellence in governance and public administration.
Governor Diri expressed confidence in Dr. Sawyer’s ability to lead the civil service with integrity, innovation, and professionalism, as Bayelsa continues its drive toward efficient service delivery and institutional reform.
