Nigerian music sensation and outspoken public figure, Portable, has called on federal authorities to take swift and decisive action against individuals who engage in disruptive pranks at airports, following a recent incident that left passengers and staff rattled at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

The drama unfolded when a group of social media pranksters staged a chaotic stunt in the departure lounge, triggering panic and confusion among travelers. Portable, who was present during the commotion, took to Instagram Live moments later, visibly agitated, demanding that the Nigerian government “stop tolerating nonsense” and “make an example of these clowns.”

“This is not entertainment — it’s harassment,” Portable said. “People are traveling, working, minding their business, and you think it’s funny to cause panic? We need serious laws to deal with this rubbish.”

The incident has reignited public debate over the growing trend of viral pranks in sensitive public spaces, particularly airports, where security protocols are stringent and any disruption can have serious consequences. Portable’s call for action has been echoed by concerned citizens and aviation stakeholders, who argue that such behavior undermines public safety and national security.

In response to the incident, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) issued a statement condemning the prank and reaffirming its commitment to maintaining order and safety across all terminals. FAAN spokesperson Henrietta Yakubu stated, “We are working closely with law enforcement to identify those responsible and ensure they face appropriate penalties.”

Portable’s demand has sparked conversations among lawmakers and civil society groups about the need for updated legislation that specifically addresses disruptive behavior in transportation hubs. Legal experts suggest that existing laws may not adequately cover the digital age phenomenon of prank culture, which often prioritizes virality over responsibility.
