Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has weighed in on the evolving dynamics of Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, stating that defeating former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in the presidential primaries will be a formidable challenge.

Speaking during a recent media engagement, Sani acknowledged Atiku’s enduring influence within the opposition and his deep-rooted political network. “Beating Atiku in the primaries will be harder,” Sani remarked, citing Atiku’s experience, resources, and loyal support base as significant factors that could tilt the scales in his favor.

Sani emphasized that while the political space should remain open and competitive, aspirants must be prepared to face a seasoned contender. “Atiku is not just a candidate; he’s an institution within the party. Anyone hoping to challenge him must come with more than ambition—they need strategy, structure, and stamina,” he added.

The former senator also encouraged younger politicians to remain engaged and not be discouraged by the odds. “Democracy thrives on competition. Let the best ideas and the strongest vision win,” he said.
