In a deeply moving moment during the ongoing October edition of the Hallelujah Challenge, celebrated gospel singer and worship leader Nathaniel Bassey revealed that his wife, Sarah Bassey, endured five miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy over the course of their marriage, many of which occurred while he was leading the globally followed worship sessions.

Speaking during the early hours of Friday, Bassey shared the emotional testimony with thousands of worshippers tuned in to the virtual praise and prayer event. “My wife will have to forgive me,” he said. “Do you know there were times during the Hallelujah Challenge when we had a miscarriage, and nobody knew? I would still come online to praise and dance. A few years ago, she was in the hospital with an ectopic pregnancy. I would leave, lead praise and worship online, then return to the hospital.”

The Hallelujah Challenge, now in its eighth year, runs nightly from October 7 to 31, starting at 11:59 p.m. It draws thousands of participants from around the world for worship, fasting, and prayer. Bassey’s revelation has sparked an outpouring of empathy and admiration from fans and fellow ministers, many of whom praised his resilience and unwavering commitment to ministry despite personal grief.

Bassey emphasized that his testimony was not shared to evoke pity but to encourage others facing silent battles. “As men of God and ministers, we have heard a lot of stories. People come to me and say, ‘Pastor Nathaniel, you don’t understand…’ But I do,” he said.

The singer’s openness has reignited conversations around the emotional toll of ministry and the importance of mental and emotional support for spiritual leaders and their families. Sarah Bassey, who has been married to Nathaniel since 2013, has not publicly commented on the revelation, but supporters have flooded social media with prayers and messages of solidarity.
