The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, has issued a formal clarification regarding the controversial $1.2 million FIFA fund allocated for the Kebbi mini stadium project, stating unequivocally that FIFA does not build stadiums for any nation.

This announcement comes amid growing public scrutiny and media speculation surrounding the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) use of FIFA’s Forward Programme funds. The $1.189 million grant, approved in 2020, was intended to support grassroots football development, including the construction of a 267-seat mini stadium in Kebbi State. However, images of the unfinished facility recently surfaced on FIFA’s official social media platforms, sparking allegations of misappropriation and national embarrassment.

Speaking on Channels Television, Hon. Amadu emphasized that FIFA’s mandate is limited to providing development grants, not direct infrastructure projects. “According to the rules of FIFA, FIFA cannot build or construct a stadium for any nation,” he stated. “They only provide football development grants which member nations can use for technical support or small-scale infrastructure.”

The NFF has maintained that the stadium project was executed in line with FIFA’s guidelines, including the installation of an artificial pitch, dressing rooms, and spectator stands. While some critics argue the facility remains incomplete, FIFA has not issued any formal complaint or audit query regarding the project.
