President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Bankers’ Committee to establish a dedicated endowment fund to ensure the long-term sustainability and maintenance of the newly renovated National Arts Theatre, now renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts.

Speaking during the official reopening of the iconic cultural landmark in Lagos, which coincided with Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of preserving the nation’s cultural heritage and investing in the creative economy.

“It is now left for Cardoso and others to assemble an endowment fund. And I’m going to be a contributor,” Tinubu declared. “It’s not bad for us to use this opportunity to create jobs, maintain accessibility, and ensure commitment. This place will not go dry again.”

The President commended the CBN Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, and the Bankers’ Committee for their N68 billion investment in the theatre’s restoration, describing the project as a symbol of national renewal and a beacon for Nigeria’s creative future.

CBN Governor Cardoso echoed the President’s sentiments, noting that the initiative was more than corporate social responsibility—it was a strategic investment in Nigeria’s youth, culture, and global influence. The revamped facility now features world-class performance halls, cinemas, exhibition galleries, and an African literature library.
